In Joshua 11
● marvel at the extensive cataloging of peoples and places through the chapter,
● see the return of “devoted to destruction” (12, 20, 21) with the exception for “plunder” (14), understanding again how important boundaries are to the Lord,
● notice the thoroughness of the sequence offered in 15: “Just as the Lord had commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua, and so Joshua did,” registering also the multiple variations on God willing and Joshua doing “just as” the Lord willed,
● count the occurrences of “all” (4, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 12, 13, 15, 16, 16, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 21, 23), reckoning with the insistence represented by these varied uses,
● notice the Gibeonite exception noted again (19),
● anticipate the implications of “some” of the “Anakim” (22) remaining in three places,
● notice the chapter closes with mention of “tribal allotments” (23) and of “rest from war” (23).
